  • You may buy plastic storage bags in which the wreath can be packed securely. After putting the wreath in the storage bag, hang it somewhere in your store room, with the help of a hook. This will save a lot of storage space and ensure the safety of the wreath, stored inside the box. Ensure that the wall, on which you hang the bag, is free of moisture.
  • Shoe boxes can be used to store Christmas wreaths. Clean the box, make a layer of cotton wool inside, pack the wreath in a newspaper and place it inside the box. Seal the box with a lid and fasten with a tape.
  • Storage boxes for Christmas wreath are also available in the market. They are manufactured especially to suit the varying needs of the customers. Look for a storage box that is a perfect fit for your Christmas wreath. Pack the wreath the same way, as you did while storing it in a shoe box.
  • In case you have to pack more than one wreath, wrap them up individually in newspapers. You can also make use of acid free tissue papers for the purpose. Place them in a box in a vertical "standing" position. This way, you don't have to pack them in many different boxes. Moreover, you can save a lot of storage space as well.
  • Make sure that you take all the little ornaments, decorative pieces and sequins off the wreath, before packing it. This ensures that the wreath is not damaged and the decorative pieces remain undeterred as well. Consider packing the ornaments separately in smaller boxes, so that they are also protected.

  • Using a fragile floral wreath for outdoor decorations is a waste, as it can't stand high winds and low temperatures. Wreaths made of silk, satin or any other cloth is also a bad idea due to snowfall or any kind of precipitation.
  • Artificial Christmas wreaths made from synthetic materials are good options for outdoor decorations, because they can withstand any given level of humidity and most of the types of weather conditions. • Another nice option for outdoor decorations is dried wreath. Dried wreaths are made of flowers and leaves, which have been dried in controlled environment. Such a treatment of the flowers makes them perfectly suitable for outdoor decoration purposes during the winter season. Dried Christmas wreaths would be the best bet for people living in a humid climate.
  • It is necessary that the decorations used on outdoor Christmas wreath should be fastened properly with the help of a strong wire. A dab of glue or tape is not sufficient to hold them in place for the entire holiday season.
  • It is best to avoid delicate decorative items like fragile bows, small flowers for your outdoor Christmas wreath. This is because most of the delicate ornaments might look too attractive, but they are manufactured only for indoor purposes. They cannot withstand the harsh weather conditions outside.
  • Go for the Christmas ornaments that are able to survive harsh weather conditions. You may opt for ball or bell ornaments for the purpose.
  • Adorn the outdoor wreath with a string of battery operated Christmas lights. This would increase the attractiveness of the decorative item.

We have provided instructions that will help you learn how to make Christmas wreath, very easily.

How To Make Christmas Wreath
  • First, collect all the things that you need to make a Christmas wreath. For a basic wreath, you will need fresh green twigs/branches, small flowers, ribbons, wire coat hangers, transparent tape, floral wire or any thin wire, and ornaments such as ball, bell and clothespin embellishments.
  • Arrange all the supplies needed for the wreath on a table, so that you get what you need without hassles. First, make the base of the wreath with the help of wire coat hangers. Let the hook remain as it is and bend the wire in a way that it forms a circle.
  • Next, get fresh thin green branches or twigs that are at least 8-10 inches long. It is better if they are fresh, since they would be set around the wire base. Dry branches will crack or break. Some of the good options are fir, pine and redwood.
  • By using small and even clusters of the aforementioned branches, set them around the thin wire base with the help of thin wire. Use tape strategically, if they tend to stick out too much. Keep adding branches until the base is covered entirely.
  • Place little flowers at equal distances from each other and fasten them with the wire. Small lilies and other wild flowers would best serve the purpose.
  • Allow the wreath to settle down a bit and then proceed with the decorations. To make sure your decorations look elegant, hang the wreath in front of you, on a wall. Thereafter, decide where the bows, sequins, glitter should be placed.
  • After you are done with the decorations, hang the Christmas wreath on your front door and see whether all the ornaments have been inserted at the right place of the decorative item. To give a neat touch to the wreath, add a satin bow at its top.
  • You may add a couple of twigs of mistletoe to the Christmas wreath. In this case, you would not require a satin or silk bow, as the mistletoe would provide the perfect traditional finishing touch to your handmade Christmas wreath.

This further adds spark to the spirit of Christmas and makes your celebration unique. You may make use of such a wreath to adorn your home's main door, in order to welcome your Christmas visitors and carolers.

In case you do not find lighted wreaths, you can always opt for fiber optic wreaths. They look mesmerizing and add that missing glow to your Christmas decor. Fiber optic Christmas wreaths are as good as the lighted ones and lend a very magical look to your decorations. You can get wreaths with lights at any electrical shop or even a department store during holiday season. You can make a beautiful lighted Christmas wreath at home as well, that too without burning a hole in your pocket. All you need is a fir wreath and a string of mini LED lights. String the lights among the branches of the fur wreath and have them hold. While doing this, ensure that the lights are not stretched out in a straight line, because it will look very dull. Instead, wrap the lights around the wreath in a random manner. The moment you reach the part of the strand that doesn't have bulbs, stop 'weaving' around the wreath.

You may improve the appeal of the wreath by hanging ball ornaments on it. You may also decorate the wreath with miniature gift boxes and bells. Secure the ornaments using hangers. Either scatter the embellishments randomly across the wreath, or arrange them in such a way that they are clustered at random positions. To give a finishing touch to your lighted Christmas wreath, attach a large velvet or satin ribbon at its top. By doing so, the electrical cord attached to the wreath would be hid. This will also hide the hanger of the wreath.

History & Origin Of Christmas Wreath

In the ancient period, wreaths were handmade by people. The wreaths symbolized pride and victory. Evergreen twigs, branches and flowers were used to make handmade wreaths, in the ancient times. They were used during auspicious occasions like weddings. Historical records suggest that it was sometime around 776 BC, when Greeks started using laurel wreaths as crowns, to award athletes who finished first in Olympics. Another record suggests that wreaths were worn by military heroes and kings in ancient Rome. Wreaths were used as embellishments by women, and were sometime complemented with jewels. The wreaths were also used as fashion accessory by women belonging to the elite class.

The tradition of hanging wreath during Christmas is essentially a Catholic ritual. This is done during the Christmas season, traditionally known as Advent. The traditional Advent Christmas wreath has four candles in the circle and one candle in the middle. The candles are either white or colorful. If the candles are colorful, three would be violet in color and one would be a rose colored candle. Traditionally, the Christmas wreaths were made of evergreen leaves, which are still symbolize the permanence of life. A traditional wreath is a circle, which means that there is no beginning or end and that God is eternal.

The candles, placed in the Christmas wreath, have their own significance. According to the tradition, one candle is lit in each day of the holiday season and the middle candle is lit on the Christmas Eve. This symbolizes the birth of infant Jesus. Prayers are usually chanted, when the candles are lit. The candles are lit just before people sit to have dinner. The decoration used for the wreath used to be nuts, seedpods, pinecones that were considered to be symbols of resurrection and permanence of life. Although Christmas wreath has now become more of a decorative wreath, the significance and importance of the wreath remains undeterred and shall remain so until eternity.

The most common design of a Christmas wreath is a circular bunch of evergreen fir twigs decorated with red berries and a big red bow. Red and green are the traditional colors for the festival. Therefore, the wreaths embellished with sparkling red and green lights look very traditional. You can be a bit innovative as well and opt for a delicate floral design that looks out of the ordinary. You may decorate your wreath with clusters of orchids and vines and make it look very unique. In such a design, one side of the wreath would be highlighted, while the other side would be relatively left unadorned.

Another popular idea of a Christmas wreath design would be to choose a wreath that is made of inflated latex balloons. The small latex balloons come in a variety of shades. The best bet would be to go for red and green metallic shades, for the balloons. Compliment the wreath with some golden balloons or glitter balls in between, here and there and tie a nice red ribbon at its top. Your new wreath design is ready to surprise your visitors! If you want brightness and illumination all around you during this Christmas season, go for exclusively lighted Christmas wreaths. You can also opt from a variety of beautifully designed fiber optic wreaths.

Apart from the usual circular design, Christmas wreaths are also available in various shapes, such as rectangle. You can also make a magnificent Christmas wreath at home by making use of rosettes, golden colored ball ornaments, a wreath form and florist's pins. On other hand, if you want to stick to something simple, yet elegant, go for a wreath that are made of huckleberries, cranberries, sumac leaves, dried amaranths and winterberries. Do not forget to add a red satin bow to the Christmas wreath, as the finishing touch.

Artificial Christmas Wreath

Christmas wreaths are beautiful decorative items that add a touch of elegance to your home, during the festive season. Although the use of original Christmas wreaths to adorn the home and premises is still a tradition of the festival, many people have resorted to the use of artificial wreaths. This is probably due to the geographical constraints, which limits them to make use of artificial wreaths as festoons for the holiday season. Available in a variety of designs, colors and prices, artificial wreaths look no less beautiful than their real counterparts. You really have to touch them to differentiate between real and artificial ones!

These days, you can get artificial Christmas wreaths in long lasting and low maintenance materials, like silk and polyester. The colors that are used for the decorative item look absolutely natural and fresh and when placed alongside a real wreath, it would be difficult for you to differentiate between the real and the artificial wreaths. The best thing about artificial Christmas wreath is that it is very easy to handle, does not fade for a long time and do not lose its shape. Every craftsman pays special attention to the minutest detail of the artificial wreath and makes sure that it looks better than the real one. Unlike real wreaths, artificial Christmas wreaths can be stored away safely for further uses.

If you want to personalize the wreath that you use for the festival, then buy an undecorated artificial wreath and then decorate it yourself with the embellishments and sequins that you would use for your Christmas tree. Use pink or red ribbons and make bows out of them. Collect different varieties of small flowers from a local florist and make 6-7 small bunches of them. Place them strategically on the wreath and secure with a tape or a thin wire. Sprinkle fine glitter all over and your wreath is ready to be hung at the doorway! You can create your own theme like sticking shells for a beach theme, stars for a serene ambience and fruits like grapes for just being different.

You may decorate your artificial Christmas wreath by making use of lace, bells, berries, baubles and ribbons. In order to make it look more natural, use carnations, cookies and fruits, to decorate it. This way, your wreath would look more natural. While choosing the fruits, be sure not to select those that would rot within a few days. Go for citrus fruits like orange. Apple would also serve the purpose. Mistletoe is one of the Christmas symbols. Therefore, decorating your artificial Christmas wreath with a mistletoe at its center would add to its overall appeal as well as make it look even more traditional. Give a finishing touch to your artificial Christmas wreath by tying a red satin bow.
